How It Works

All plastics shrink as they cool. ABS shrinks the most (~0.7-0.8%), PLA the least (~0.3-0.4%), PETG about 0.4-0.6%. Shrinkage is usually less in Z because layer adhesion constrains vertical movement. Scale factor = 100 / (100 - shrinkage%). Always calibrate with a test cube first.
