How It Works

A typical FDM printer draws 100-300W. The heated bed is the biggest consumer (~60-70% of power) but cycles on/off (duty cycle). PLA prints use less bed power than ABS. Average electricity cost in the US is $0.12-0.16/kWh. A 10-hour PLA print costs roughly $0.10-0.30 in electricity.
